Day 8
May 9, 2001

Howdy All,
Just another day riding the range in our Outback. I think the animals
think it's Crocodile Dundee driving up, thats why they all come running.
Today was our first overcast day. The temp was 50-60
and it tried to rain a couple of times. Heard from Margie and
Kelly last night and I guess that all is well back home.
So far we have traveled just over 1000 miles and have seen natures beauty at it's best.
Great hearing from you all. Keep them coming.

This is a map of Yellowstone
Red is the part that is still closed.
Blue was our route on Day 6
Yellow was our route on Day 7
Green is where we are going tomorrow

Today we took it easy and drove to Earthquake Lake. Went to Grizzly Discovery Center.
Then saw a video on Yellowstone at the Imax Theater and went shopping.

Prilly, I think I hear something.
Ok this is not a real bear. It was a statue.

This is a real Bear !
Don't worry mom, I am far away. I had to blow up the picture and crop it so you could see him.

I'm not getting out of my car for this one.

I wanted to throw a rock and wake this guy up but Prilly wouldn't let me.

Here's Prilly down at Lake Hebgen trying to lure the bears.

We don't know what kind of wild flower this was but they were down by the lake.

Earthquake Lake   In 1959 one of the worst earthquakes to hit the west hit this area. The river that flows out
of Lake Hebgen was all at once cut off by two mountains that were shook apart and filled
the valley. The water backed up and formed this lake. The water line used to be
much higher till the government cut a channel to lower it to a safe level.

Ok my pic of the day.

Ok Prilly, step on it before he leaps.

Since I bought me this hat all Prilly wants to do is go for my gun.

Ray & Susan had some good question last night so I gave them what I thought were some good answers.

Are the animals visitor friendly?
When you enter the park they give you a big piece of paper that tells how many people get gored by buffalo and elk each year. But I looked at it and my name wasn't on it so I guess I'm ok.

Do they scare easily?
No they don't scare easily. If you were that big and had horns and were on your own turf would you be scared?

Is it hard to get close to them?
Not when your in your car, especially when you have a rental.

Did you feel the mist from old "unfaithful"?
Old "Unfaithful" was my bigest disappointment so far. I guess in May it doesn't have much pressure to perform. The only mist I felt was in my eyes for wasting 80 min on it.

Well that wraps it up for today. Got a big trip planned around the park for Day 9 so got to hit the hay.
You all take care now you hear.

Love Prilly & Ralph
